Some facts:

  • One cubic metre of concrete weighs about 2.4 tonnes
  • One cubic metre of concrete will fill about 25 standard wheelbarrows
Concrete is supplied by the cubic metre. To determine how much is required, it will be necessary to measure the volume to be concreted by multiplying the surface area by the average depth. All dimensions must be in the same units. The depth is obtained by placing a straightedge or tight string-line across the top of the formwork and measuring the depth in several places. The average of the measurements is used to calculate the volume.
